Billing agent status for mPay S.A.
Current report 07/2007 dated 30.01.2007
The Management Board of ATM S.A. inform that the subsidiary mPay S.A., by decision of the President of the National Bank of Poland, obtained consent to run a mobile payment authorization and clearing system, and thus gained the status of a Billing Agent. As a result of the NBP decision obtained, mPay S.A., as the first entity in Poland, enjoys that status with respect to executing mobile payments.
The rights obtained allow the company to start providing m-payment services publicly in the domestic market. The services shall be provided based on author’s and innovative technological solutions, and the company’s own patent applications in 57 countries. The solutions allow for using each mobile phone available in the market, and are adjusted to new solutions, such as the NFC telephone technology promoted by VISA and Nokia ( Near Field Communication).
Thus, mPay S.A. embarks on commercial provision of services which will shortly generate first revenues. Their amount is not yet known because of the unique nature of that kind of service, although experts’ estimates as to the m-payment market growth looks bright.
mPay S.A. expects first receipts from providing mobile payment services with respect to the so-called nuisance payments, micro-payments (automatic beverage dispensers, transport, parking) and e-sales payments. It is assumed that one of the first applications of m-payments will provide the possibility to pay for video-on-demand (VOD) services in the mPay system. The convenience created by making payments using the cellular phone gives a completely different dimension to services provided by another ATM subsidiary: Cineman sp. z o.o. The services of mPay also match other innovative projects carried out by the companies of the ATM capital group, becoming an exemplary execution of the ATM strategy of developing and implementing innovative services added to telecommunication.
